Fostering
Gives Back
Fostering animals provides a safe and healthy environment for those who need to heal, grow, or get a little extra love while waiting for a forever home.
Humane Indiana never wants to turn an animal in need away. When our shelter reaches capacity, some of our pets need a temporary place to live so we can make room for more.
Foster families selflessly share their home and provide a loving transition while the pet is matched with a forever home.

faq
-
Fosters must be at least 21 years of age and live within 1 hour of the Shelter (421 45th Street, Munster IN). Depending on the type of Foster pet, specific training may be required.
-
Humane Indiana provides all supplies for the duration of your Foster pet’s stay. This includes food/feeding supplies, crates, bedding, medication, and any other necessary items for your pet.
-
Fostering can be as short as a single night “Slumber Pawty” or indefinitely while the pet is available for Adoption. Certain pets, such as moms with litters or orphaned puppies/kittens may require 8 weeks of care before being housed at the Shelter. Crisis Foster contracts are re-evaluated every 30 days.
-
We do our best to match Fosters with pets that we believe will fit well into their home and lifestyle. We will happily work with Fosters to find the right fit, and urge Fosters not to be discouraged if one pet doesn’t work out.
