community medicine days!

Our clinic will be open by appointment only on select days for Community Medicine Days. These dates will allow qualifying clients to book appointments for various veterinary services. Please read through the information below.

PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE BOOKING YOUR APPOINTMENT. please email clinic@humaneindiana.org with any questions

  • PETS MUST BE SPAYED/NEUTERED to participate in Community Medicine Days. To book a Spay/Neuter appointment, CLICK HERE.

    We proudly serve those who meet the following qualifications:

    • Residents of East Chicago, Gary, Hammond, or Merrillville, Indiana

    • Income-eligible households receiving government assistance, including:

      • SNAP (Food Assistance)

      • Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

      • Medicaid

      • Social Security Disability

      • Unemployment benefits

      • Public Housing Assistance (Section 8 / HCV)

      • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

      • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

      • Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP)

      • Other proof of low household income

    • Active Military or Veterans with valid military I.D.

    • First Responders

    • Owners of pitbulls and pitbull mixes*

    • Humane Indiana Adopters*

    *If pet owners have other pets that do not meet these criteria (not pitbull mixes/not adopted from Humane Indiana), they will need to meet another qualification(s) in order to have additional pets seen.

    • microchipping

    • Vaccinations

    • heartworm testing/prevention

    • flea/tick prevention

    • nail trim

    • acute conditions (such as ear infections, minor eye issues, upper respiratory symptoms, vomiting and diarrhea)

    • Arrive 15 minutes early to check in, leaving your pet in the vehicle until asked to bring them inside.

    • Dogs must be on a leash or in a carrier with a well-fitting collar (NO prong collars).

    • Cats must be in a secure carrier.

    • Bring any PREVIOUS MEDICAL RECORDS you may have for your pet.

    • Cash, credit, or debit ONLY. Checks or Care Credit/other Veterinary Financing Assistance not accepted. Payment due at the time of services rendered.

  • Community Medicine Days will vary on a monthly basis. For the most accurate information regarding upcoming dates, follow our Facebook page.

REMINDER: CHOKE, PRONg, AND PINCH COLLARS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED ON CLINIC PROPERTY. Humane Indiana is proud to be a Fear Free facility, ensuring all animals who enter our Clinic are treated with research-based, behavior-led handling methods to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress.
