Dear Friend,
Sometimes, the gut punches keep coming.
After devastating storms swept through Northwest Indiana, forcing us to evacuate our shelter and leaving our facilities without power, we finally reopened our doors.
Two hours later, we welcomed more than 70 dogs from a local hoarding situation.
These dogs arrived needing immediate care, compassion and a safe place to land. Many require veterinary attention, grooming, nutritious food, clean bedding and time to decompress. They are now in our care, and we are committed to giving them everything they need to heal and begin the next chapter of their lives.
But the timing has made an already difficult situation even more challenging.
Our community is still recovering from the storms that caused widespread damage and disruption. Humane Indiana's facilities have now regained power, and our teams are working hard to get back to normal, but the impact of the storm continues to be felt.
Our Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center continues to care for hundreds of animals, including wildlife affected by the storm. Families in our community are still facing financial hardship and turning to our Pet Food Pantry for help. And our organization is working to recover from the loss of revenue and unexpected expenses caused by the storm while simultaneously taking on the significant costs of caring for more than 70 additional dogs.
With your help, we can do this.
We need you to show up when the animals need us most.
These dogs didn't choose the circumstances they came from. But we are choosing to believe that this is where they get to skip to the good part.

Make a donation. Your gift will help provide food, veterinary care, medications, shelter, enrichment and daily care for the more than 70 dogs who have just arrived—as well as the thousands of other animals who depend on Humane Indiana.
Shop our Wish Lists. Our animals go through enormous quantities of food, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies and other essentials. Every item purchased helps us meet their immediate needs.
Support our Pet Food Pantry. The storm has placed additional strain on families across our community. Helping provide pet food can make it possible for people to keep the animals they love at home.
Most importantly, please remember that every dollar, every bag of food, every donated towel, and every act of kindness adds up.
We have made it through the worst of the storm, and our power is back on. But our work is far from over.
